In the heart of the Destination Sarrebourg Moselle-Sud region, at the gateway to the Vosges mountains, take the most unexpected routes to explore nature. With your feet firmly on the ground and your head in the fresh air, come and enjoy the mosaic of unspoilt natural areas. Here's our suggestion of 3 not-to-be-missed walking routes in the area.
The Devil's Rock trail
Starting in Abreschviller, on this trail you will discover the impressive ‘Devil's Rock’. At the foot of this immense rock, you will see a representation of the devil sculpted in pink sandstone. Along the way, you'll also discover the Saint Léon cave, the deepest in the Vosges mountains, and the 13th-century Léon IX chapel in Walscheid. Let yourself be guided through these natural corners and take a break under the gazebo to admire the view and enjoy a refreshing break.
The 9.7-kilometre route takes around 3 hours 35 minutes to complete, and is of moderate difficulty due to the gradient.
The Sarre circuit in Sarrebourg
Extend your experience of nature and culture by taking the Sarre circuit in Sarrebourg. The 13.3-kilometre route takes around 4 hours to complete, taking in both urban and woodland landscapes. It offers some fine views, including a magnificent panorama of the Vosges Massif, where the expression ‘the blue line of the Vosges’ takes on its full meaning.
Don't hesitate to deviate from your route to immerse yourself further in the area. The town of Sarrebourg is home to some unsuspected gems, so take the time to visit the Parcours Chagall with its Chapelle des Cordeliers, which houses Chagall's majestic ‘La Paix’ stained-glass window, 12 metres high. Well worth the diversions!
The Langatte circuit
Starting from the stock pond, this pleasant walk between water and forest is just over 7 kilometres long.
The path runs along the banks of the Sarre canal. The circular walk takes around 2hrs 15mins to complete, giving you plenty of time to enjoy nature to the full.
